Bantwal Vittal Baliga
Bantval Vittal Baliga was an electronics engineer who served as the first Chief Engineer of All-India Radio after independence with responsibility for setting up the radio network in India between 1947 and 1958. At the request of the Defense Ministry, he took the helm of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in 1958. As Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, he introduced the production of semiconductor technology and TV tubes bringing BEL into profitability by 1960. Under his leadership, revenues at BEL grew from 53 lakhs in 1958 to 2700 lakhs when he retired in 1968. He was responsible for founding the Institute for Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers in India and served as its Founding President.
